I recently played in a charity golf outing to support the Help Foundation.
My entire experience with golfing comes from miniature golf, where I’m lousy at putting through windmills, volcanos, and all of the other obstacles encountered on the course.
So, when I was asked to put together a foursome and participate in the outing, my initial response was, “I’m not a golfer.”
As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I realized how closed-minded I was being.
I was being presented with an opportunity to try something new, learn from it, have some fun and support an incredible nonprofit organization.
So, I said YES to:
- Getting out of my comfort zone
- Looking like a fool with my amateur skills on display
- Not knowing exactly what to expect
- Spending an entire day feeling out of my element
AND, I also said YES to:
- Learning something new
- Improving my amateur skills with each stroke
- Discovering my capabilities
- Spending an entire day feeling supported by my team as I learned
When you find yourself wanting to say “NO” to a new challenge, I encourage you to EMBRACE those opportunities and say YES when they come along!
Ask yourself:
- Why am I afraid to say YES?
- What can I LEARN from this?
- How might this experience EXPAND my horizons?
- What LONG TERM benefit might come from this?
What will you say YES to this week?
Wishing you the best!
P.S. In case you haven’t heard, enrollment is open for my Group Coaching Program of Women. Let me know if you’re interested!
