Will 2021 be your year – the year you achieve your goals?
It’s easy to develop new year’s resolutions and annual goals; the hard work comes with getting into action and sustaining your momentum.
Last year I set a big, ambitious goal to quit my comfortable corporate job and start my own business. I developed this goal in 2019, before COVID existed, with plans to implement it starting on April 1, 2020.
I’ve encountered roadblocks before but starting a new business when the economy is shut down seemed impossible! Yet, I did it!
Do you have an “impossible” goal for 2021? Check out my four keys to successful goal achievement.
- Get Clear on Your Why: Why do you want to accomplish these goals? What difference will it make in your life and the lives of others? What difference will it make for your relationships, career, or other aspects of your life? WRITE IT DOWN and READ IT REGULARLY. This clear vision will help launch you into action and boost your motivation when you encounter roadblocks. I still look at what I wrote down in 2019 to keep me inspired.
- Envision Success: What will your life look like after you accomplish these goals? Can you picture it? I mean REALLY PICTURE IT. Close your eyes and spend some time with the “future you,” living your best life because you achieved your goals. Revisit this picture any time you think you can’t do it and remind yourself that you can. YOU CAN overcome any obstacles that might come your way, and IT WILL BE WORTH IT! The mental models I created for myself were instrumental in overcoming fear and believing in myself.
- Surround Yourself with a Supportive Network: Find YOUR PEOPLE, the ones that will support you, and REINFORCE THE HARD WORK you are doing to make positive changes in your life. You NEED cheerleaders that will celebrate your successes, lift you up when you fall, and encourage you to get back on track again.
- Create Accountability: ASK FOR HELP to keep you accountable for making progress. Find someone you trust to offer support and provide those nudges when needed to get you back on track. If you’re really committed to achieving your goals, HIRE A COACH to help you. That’s what I did, and the return on investment was well worth it! Having frequent coaching calls and committing to action items between calls kept me on track and accelerated my momentum.
