Why Taking a REAL Vacation Matters

by | Jul 21, 2023 | Blog

Imagine you are getting ready to take a week off work for V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N! 🌴🍹

Which of the following are you most likely to do?

  1. Completely disconnect from work for the entire week.
  2. Check your emails every few days while you’re on vacation to handle anything urgent and encourage people to text you for emergencies.
  3. Check your emails every morning, catch up on a few things, and then relax and enjoy the rest of your day.
  4. Agree to participate in a “critical” virtual meeting or two while you’re on vacation if they schedule it in the morning to accommodate you.

If you responded B, C, or D, keep reading – you need to understand why REAL vacations matter!

Recharge Those Batteries
Our bodies and minds are not machines; they need rest and rejuvenation, or it will lead to burnout. Vacations provide the perfect opportunity to recharge those depleted batteries. By disconnecting from work, you allow your mind and body to unwind and recover from the constant pressure, helping you return with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Consider it a prescription to care for your mental and physical health.

Quality Time with Loved Ones

Taking a vacation and disconnecting from work lets you be fully present with your loved ones. Whether it’s your partner, kids, or friends, these shared experiences create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Gain a Fresh Perspective

When you’re trapped in the daily grind, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. Taking time off allows you to gain a fresh perspective on your life and career. You might discover new goals and aspirations or realize that you’re on the right track and doing exactly what makes you happy.

Set an Example

By prioritizing self-care and vacation time, you set a positive example for everyone around you. If you are a leader, this is especially important! You might tell your team it’s ok to disconnect for vacation, and you need to “walk the talk” to gain their trust that you really mean it.

So, my fellow workaholics, let’s make a pact to prioritize our well-being and embrace the magic of vacation! By taking that well-deserved break and disconnecting from work, we can return as happier, healthier, and more productive individuals.

Happy vacationing! 🌞🏖️

Wishing you the best!
