You’re probably familiar with the phrase “think outside the box.” This week, I’m inviting you to step out of your circle!
Let me explain…
I recently facilitated a leadership team-building activity for a client. It was a fun activity where the group worked together to accomplish a goal.
I asked the group to stand in a circle while I explained the objective and got them started on their task. As they worked through their task, I invited them to do anything they wanted to innovate and produce better results.
It took them 30 minutes of trial and error before someone asked, “Do we have to stand in a circle?”
They produced their best results once they stepped out of their circle!
When I assigned the task, I gave them the overall goal and invited them to innovate.
In fact, I pushed them, encouraged them, tapped into their competitive spirit, and gave them space to innovate.
Yet, they continued to limit their innovation based on an assumption.
It wasn’t until about their 20th attempt that they realized they were working within an unnecessary constraint.
What Are Your Circles?
Are you working within unnecessary constraints limiting your ability to produce exceptional results?
How might you RECOGNIZE and break free from those constraints?
How might you effectively communicate and empower your team to produce results without unnecessary constraints if you’re a leader?
I invite you to step out of your circles and create an environment that empowers others to do the same!
Wishing you the best!
