Some mornings I wake up and have ZERO motivation. Do you know the song “Bang the Drum All Day?”
…I don’t want to work
I want to bang on the drum all day
I don’t want to play
I just want to bang on the drum all day…
Yeah, that starts playing in my head as my theme song.
The thing is, I absolutely love the work I do. I have a cool boss (me), and I get to choose the amazing clients I work with (you).
So, why wouldn’t I jump out of bed every day filled with enthusiasm about working?
I’m not a machine.
I’m a human being.
We all need to take breaks from our routine of work, life, and “adulting” to recharge our batteries.
When I lack motivation, I know it’s my “low charge warning.” It’s time to look at my calendar and carve out a few days off.
Do you recognize your signals when you need a break? And, more importantly, do you allow yourself to take a break, WITHOUT GUILT, to take care of yourself?
Let’s take this battery metaphor a step further…
If you don’t find time to recharge, you’ll eventually switch into “low power mode.”
Your light won’t shine as bright.
You won’t be capable of performing some functions that normally run in the background (such as emotional intelligence).
And, without warning, you’ll completely shut down – probably at the most inopportune time!
There’s NOTHING to feel guilty about when you need to take a break.
When your phone gives you the low battery warning, you stop what you’re doing to look for a charger and plug it in.
Why not do the same thing for yourself to enable you to perform at your best?
Wishing you the best!
