Over the past month, I’ve been sharing exercises to help you begin thinking about your personal vision. I asked you to think about your core values, come up with your bucket list, and reflect on your purpose in life. Now it’s time to pull all of that together and start formulating your personal vision.
Why would you want to create a personal vision? Well, if you don’t know where you want to go, how will you ever get there? A vision gives you direction, so you don’t wake up one day and ask yourself where all the years went and wonder why you haven’t achieved the things you wanted out of life. With a compelling vision, you can ignite the fire within yourself and motivate yourself to take the necessary steps to achieve it. Fear and uncertainty hold many people back from achieving their dreams, but with the right motivation and action plan, you can blast through that fear and live the life of your dreams!
To start drafting your vision, pick a timeframe for when you want to achieve it and begin by writing this statement, “Ten years from now [insert your timeframe] this is what my life will look like.” Then describe what you want your life to look like from a variety of perspectives. I’ve listed some ideas below to get you started.
- Family, Friends, and Love
- Career
- Community
- Health and Wellness
- Spiritual Practice
- Travel and Experiences
- Finances
- Lifestyle
Once you have finished your first draft, set it aside for a week, and then re-read it. What else would you like to add or change? Continue making tweaks until you are excited and energized about what you created! Congratulations, you just took your first step towards achieving your dreams! In an upcoming newsletter, we’ll work on putting those dreams into action.
You are capable of doing this work on your own, but if you want to accelerate your progress, I highly recommend working with a coach. Speaking from personal experience, I am living my dreams, 8-years sooner than I thought I could because I worked with a coach. Wishing you the best!
