When you allow your mind to wander, it integrates, consolidates, and associates all of the information you have in your memory. It’s during these “brain breaks” that you can access and combine that information to create an “ah-ha” moment.
So, if you incorporate “brain breaks” throughout your day, you will have more “ah-ha” moments, it will be easier to make decisions, and you’ll increase your overall productivity.
And make sure you’re actually taking a brain break. Reading the news, checking social media, watching TV, or playing games on your phone are actually “brain drain” activities because they require focused attention.
Look for activities that allow your mind to wander, such as:
- Going for walk
- Playing with children or pets
- Staring out a window
- Taking a nap
- Meditating
- Listening to music
