Over the past few weeks, my “perfectionistic tendencies” have been tested!
If you’re a perfectionist, then you get it – the struggle is real!
I’m working with my business partner preparing to launch a second business, and we’re developing a library of courses.\
My inner perfectionist is heavily focused on high quality and polish as we create these courses.
My practical mind reminds me that we’re giving them away for free.
It’s been liberating to let go of my perfectionism and enjoy the process!
If you also struggle with perfectionism, here are a few things I’ve learned during my latest battle:
Deadlines are Your Friend
Setting tight deadlines and limiting the time available forces me to focus on the “must-haves” and let go of the rest. I simply don’t have time to obsess over the visuals or re-record the lessons multiple times. So, it causes me to be discerning about where to spend my time.
Know Your Audience
My audience doesn’t want or need these programs to be “perfect.” The people watching these courses will be more interested in the quality of the lessons we’re teaching rather than the quality of the production. As long as the production value doesn’t distract them from the learning, they will have a fantastic learning experience.
Authenticity Beats High Polish
We intentionally chose to be authentic and human to better connect with our audience. As much as I cringe inside when I fumble my words, I remind myself that “perfect” is not relatable since nobody is perfect.
If you can relate to my challenges with perfectionism, I encourage you to revisit these tips the next time you feel yourself spending way too much time trying to make things perfect!
Wishing you the best!
